ANNUAL PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES

  • Field Trips to unique gardens are offered to inspire members to new gardening heights!

  • Garden Beautification at Shaler North Hills Library: Members plant and maintain the library gardens which are enjoyed by library staff and the community at large. These gardens include a hillside pollinator garden, foundation plantings, a flower garden surrounding the club’s commemorative centennial anniversary statue, an herb garden, and a fairy garden, featuring houses that were created by members.

  • Caddy Stacks: Members help design and create a mini golf hole as part of a Shaler North Hills Library fundraiser.
    Chairpersons: Cathy Didomenico, Vivian Didomenico and Palma Imbarlina

  • Decorate indoor Christmas trees at the Shaler North Hills Library. One is decorated with handmade ornaments made from natural dried plant materials, one with Santas, one with traditional ornaments and one with gingerbread cookies made by members.

  • Earth Day: Members assemble and distribute seed packets or seedlings to area kindergarten students in the Shaler Area School District, to inspire them to learn more about planting flowers that are good pollinators for the bees and insects.

  • Fairy Garden Workshop, held at Shaler Library for 4–8-year-olds, inspires children with the magic of gardening, as they build houses for fairies out of natural materials.

  • Floral Hoop Wreath Workshop: Patrons of Shaler North Hills Library create beautiful floral hoop wreaths using silk flowers and greenery. After a demonstration, members are available to provide assistance. Proceeds from the event go towards Shaler North Hills Library fundraising efforts.

  • Hampton Fields Workshop: Members travel to Hampton Fields to assist residents in the creation of flower embellished picture frames using materials provided by the club.

  • Wreath Decorating Workshop: Participants make a unique holiday wreath to hang on their front door. Decorations and a circle of live greens are provided along with imaginative suggestions from members.

  • Horticulture Project 2025: Seed propagation and herb and flower gardening at a local residential care facility.  Residents will have a hands-on approach to planting and harvesting with the assistance of a group of garden club members.

  • National Garden Week: The traditional free plant give-away will continue.  A children’s workshop on creating a container garden is planned.

  • National Pollinator Week: A special program on Fireflies will be presented at the library.

  • SNHL Gardens Maintenance 2025: The SNHL gardens will be divided into sections: Plant America Hillside Garden, Front Entrance, Kier Garden, Right Front Garden, Book Drop Garden and Brick Planters/Side Beds and Herb Garden.  Volunteers for each section will establish their own maintenance schedule.
