
In September 1921, the Garden Club of Allegheny County sponsored a meeting at the Braun School to promote President Herbert Hoover’s initiative to increase food conservation by growing vegetable gardens and harvesting crops. One of the attendees, Mrs. W.L. Davis, held a meeting in her home in which ten women attended and formed the Shaler Township Branch of the Woman’s National Farm and Garden Association.
Following the meeting, Mrs. W.L. Davis hosted a gathering at her home, resulting in ten women forming this branch.
